Paraeducator programs at ESD 105 assist potential and current classroom tutors in becoming a useful and effective part of the instructional process. In Washington, paraeducators are required to assist students in understanding reading skills, writing techniques, and mathematical concepts.

Paraeducation Requirements
• Requirements to become a paraeducator can be met with ETS online testing. Some school districts may offer ETS testing, so check with your school district to see if testing is provided at your location. If you want to obtain ETS testing through ESD 105, you may set up an appointment time by contacting Robin Granger at (509) 454-5314.
• What are Washington's guidelines for paraeducators and the requirements you need to fulfill under NCLB? Find out at OSPI's Paraeducators page.

Paraprofessional Classes
ParaReading – These trainings offer the foundation of a proven, research-based system of teaching in the five components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Classes can be conducted at ESD 105 and at your school district. For information, contact Joan Triplett.
Core Competencies – ESD 105 offers training in the core competencies required by OSPI for paraeducators who work with students having special health care needs. For information on core competencies, contact the ESD 105 Special Education program.
